The stories we tell ourselves shape our reality. What story are we telling ourselves about our lives today? What do we believe our lives are supposed to look like? How can we learn to embrace painful emotions and difficult journeys as gifts—catalysts that propel us into transformation?
Through struggle, what strengths, assets, and hidden gems have we uncovered? There is profound healing power in sharing our stories. Storytelling reminds us that we are not alone. It is a source of hope, breaking down old ideas and sweeping away prejudices that may have kept us stuck.
Mary Goggins is the CEO and founder of Lantern Recovery Services, a trauma-informed mental health organization dedicated to supporting individuals affected by addiction and mental health challenges. Born and raised in Wisconsin as one of seven children, Mary brings both a grounded perspective and deep compassion—shaped by her personal journey and more than 18 years of experience in the behavioral health field. After relocating to Arizona in 2022, she has continued her mission of service while also cherishing her role as a proud mother of three grown daughters. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and spending quality time with family and friends.
Lantern Recovery Services was founded in February 2024, inspired by Mary’s belief in the power of taking small, steady steps—even in times of uncertainty. The name Lantern stems from a deeply personal moment during a difficult season, when a friend encouraged her to envision a lantern at her feet—illuminating just the next step forward. This practice of presence, of resisting the urge to “future trip,” became central to Lantern Recovery’s philosophy. Its guiding verse, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105), reflects the mission of offering hope and direction—one step at a time.
Mary provides trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy, available fully online for adults in Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado, Florida, and New Jersey. Her approach integrates EMDR, parts work, and other eclectic methods to support deep, lasting healing.
Mary completed her EMDR basic training through the Francine Shapiro EMDR Training Institute in June 2025. She earned her Master’s in Social Work from UW-Milwaukee in 2007 and has worked as a clinician for the past 18 years. Mary is a fully licensed LCSW in Wisconsin (WI), Arizona (AZ), Colorado (CO), Michigan (MI), Florida (FL), and New Jersey (NJ).
In addition to her LCSW credentials, Mary holds independent licensure in substance abuse counseling. She is a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC) in Arizona, as well as a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) and an Independent Clinical Supervisor (ICS) in Wisconsin.
Embarking on the journey of healing and self-discovery requires great courage, and Mary understands that reaching out can sometimes feel overwhelming. In the collaborative space she builds with her clients, judgment is set aside. Your experiences, challenges, and emotions will always be met with empathy, compassion, and understanding.

Really helped me talk through things I like how Mary talks and gives me ideas rather than sitting and just listening to me. She’s exactly what I need.
